Standard Rates

Quick Mental Math

• 10%: Move decimal left
• 15%: 10% + half of 10%
• 20%: 10% × 2

Europe

General Guidelines

• UK: 10-15% (often included)
• France: Service included, round up
• Germany: Round up or 5-10%
• Italy: Round up or small amount
• Spain: Round up, no tip expected

Asia

Country-Specific

• Japan: No tipping (can be offensive)
• Korea: No tipping expected
• China: Not customary, changing in cities
• Thailand: 10% appreciated

Bill: $80, Tax: $8, Tip 20%:

• Tip on pre-tax: $80 × 0.20 = $16
• Total: $80 + $8 + $16 = $104

Splitting Bills

Total bill: $150, 4 people, 20% tip:

• Tip: $150 × 0.20 = $30
• Total with tip: $180
• Per person: $180 / 4 = $45
